#30DayMommyBootCamp

January 22, 2014

I shared last week how I was starting my own #30daymommybootcamp.
I wanted to feel healthier, make smarter meal decisions
and set better examples for my kids!

I am not a health nut! I’m not like ooo yayy flax seed woohoo! haha.
BUT I realized that I was letting my busy schedule take over my eating habits.
I was turning to soda or the leftover christmas candy stash to give me that boost
I needed to wrangle my 3 kids and stay on top of my business and blog!
I didn’t want to feel dependent on them..and I’m super stubborn.
So I kicked soda and sweets to the curb for the past week
(besides my birthday cake ;)
I’m living by the 90/10 rule..
90 percent of the time I am going to choose healthy options.
water over soda… not having the cookie over taking one.
I will not feel guilty over eating a sweet treat at a party or having a soda on a date night…
But I want to have it be the special treat and not the every day routine.
Does that make sense?
It wasn’t until I had this in the forefront of my mind that I realized how often I
would let myself drive through the drive thru for quick lunch options…
or join in the bribery cookies with my oh so well behaved children….
I feel very proud of myself and happy to say the scale is going down
and the energy is going up!

We are doing more whole wheat and fruits and vegetables.
We are giving up red meat and only having chicken occasionally.
Ben has been vegetarian since we started, but I’m happy to still have
chicken in our diet but be vegetable focused!
I’m a big snacker so having healthy snack options in the house is a must.

I’m going to be sharing the recipes and grocery list that I’m using as I jump into this!
Check back for that post with the free download!

If you are looking for super health nut meal plans..
go somewhere else.
You aren’t gonna find soy or wheat germ anything here.
Seriously though I would need to google “really healthy stuff” to
find out anything else to put there. haha.

I’m going to share easy approachable healthy food options.
My girls have been SO INTO IT! They do this song and dance about eating
healthy foods and growing strong and healthy… It is awesome.
And they notice that mommy is serving them LOTS of fresh vegetables and fruits
and less treats. They still get treats…she took a fruit snack to school yesterday
because we still had them in the house…live it up girl.. but when you get home for
dinner it’s whole wheat pizza covered in fresh veggies that you are going to help me
wash and get ready! It’s the balance that I want my kids to see!
We will bake cookies together…but we won’t eat all of them…
we will package them up and do a special delivery of treats to friends or neighbors!

Not only am I trying to make healthy food choices for our family…
But I’m scheduling in time at the gym or working out at home.
I reactivated my gym membership and now go in and run 3.5 miles while watching downtown abby.
I kinda get into the zone and just go when I put on a show!
Sometimes it’s easier to do a work out at home..go to you tube people!
I have been using Fitness Blender’s videos and they are AWESOME.
The guy’s voice is calming..and the girl seems nice and friendly.
It kicks my butt..but something I can DEFINITELY do, even if we get snowed in.

If you want to follow a long on how I’m living this…

    I love it!
This is pretty much what I’m doing (but yes to the red meats!) and no to refined anything…so no more white anything for me…I think that’s been the best thing I’ve done for myself ever! I love white pasta, and bread…and and and..haha..but I realized it’s pretty much straight sugar and not so good for me…I hate whole wheat pasta, so I switched to brown rice pasta because it’s a whole grain, but tastes as good as white pasta!
Good luck with everything…I thought it would be hard, but it’s so easy once as you tell yourself that you’re not eating certain things…but I do allow one small treat everyday!

I can totally relate…I’ve been trying to be better this month too, especially after I think I ate a dessert every night in December. :) I love your approach…practical and easy. So necessary with little people taking up our time! Way to go! :)

Good job momma! I hope to serve as a health role model for healthy habits for my children as well. I think that it is one of the best things that we can do for our children to set a god example and habits for the rest of their lives. Looking forward to following your posts and seeing the recipes that you use.

    This is awesome!! and I love that your food really looks yummy and you aren’t trying to convince us to make seaweed wrap sandwiches! (Blech) I agree that kids will totally jump on board things that mommy does…mine love to do my Jillian Michaels dvd and even though its embarrassing that the 6 yr old can do better push ups than me…I love having them involved! you are motivating me to get my act together…thanks :-}

    Natalie,
Thanks so much for sharing your Mommy Boot Camp! It’s great to hear that your girls are into it. I feel kids are usually pretty excited about things their parents are excited about. You inspired me to create my own “Mama Shape-Up Challenge”. Feel free to check it out: http://sundaesandspaghetti.blogspot.com/2014/01/cardio-lover.html. Also, you should totally do a link-up where other people can share their fitness/healthy eating goals (I would join you, but as of now I don’t have very many followers). Many blessings and keep up the good work!

I’m proud of you! I’d love to share Advocare with you! It has been around 20+ years and has the best nutrition on the planet. Spark is their #1 product, which is B vitamin based energy, I like to call it happy mommy juice :). My husband and I started on the 24 day challenge in spring 2012. Since that time he’s lost 55 pounds and I’ve lost 20, and a combined 20 inches (plus put $15,000 in our pockets). I’d love to chat with you about the nutrition that can be added by the highest quality nutrition on the market!
