Being a Night-Owl…Raising Little Morning People.

September 3, 2013

I am a night owl.
I get this from my mama.
She is the same way.. we have always been little busy bees at night, working on stuff…
We laugh about how my dad, when we are all together visiting,
STILL goes through the house turning off the lights around us at 9:00pm.
That’s like.. hoursss before you really need to go to bed ;) ;)
Since having kids..I found myself NEEDING to stay up at night so I could actually get things done. Some days, that’s the only way things happen!

I don’t mind waking up and getting rolling in the morning…
If wake up can come after 7 or 8.
But my little wee ones are MORNING PEOPLE…
and as soon as the sun shines they are ready to take on the day.
Even black out shades don’t keep these stinkers sleeping.
They have FINALLY been waking up at 7:00/7:30…
instead of the typical 6:00/6:30.

Growing up I was not a coffee drinker.
But since having a third child….I remember telling Nen OK…
I am going to force myself to like it. haha.
Luckily for me…my husband introduced me to the amazing
combo of chocolate and coffee…cafe mocha….I love you.
(the coffee and the husband)
I need a few things to force help me be a morning person.
Jesus.
A Pretty breakfast area.
Cafe Mocha in a pretty mug.
and of course Morning smoochies from the kids.
(preferably ones without food/boogers etc on their face.)
Pancakes make it easier to be a morning person too.
coffee cake.. sausage egg stratta..you get the idea.
Having real food..or a tasty breakfast food makes it easier to do
the whole up at the crack of dawn thing.
I love oatmeal. or Danon Fit & Active Vanilla yogurt
with blueberries and granola. yum.

I’m kindaaaa in love with my Latte Mug from NSPottery.
I grabbed up the pink peach color.
It is the perfect size for coffee… oatmeal… ICE CREAM…………
I also LOVE(and got plenty of Instagram love on) the Hand-Stamped Vintage Spoon
by Jessica N Designs – Isn’t it soo cute?!???
The first time I used it Sophia requested her own.
“How did they write on the spoon???” ;)
I’m really excited because… both creative girls have
teamed up and are selling their items at the Influence Conference!
I’ll be there speaking on the Accessible Experts Panel
and can’t wait to meet them and stop by their display in the Sashes Market!
I’m going to hug them and say thank you for making my mornings pretty. :)
Nothing akward about that.

Sometimes creating a pretty space and morning routine can help you be a morning person…
The whole idea of going to bed early is just absurd.
who does that?! ;)
Are you a morning person?
or a night owl like me?

I’m both a night owl and a morning person. Lately more of a night owl though, thankfully when she’s feeling generous my little girl will sleep until 8! Score! Any idea on when your book will come out? Is that still happening?

I’m so not a morning person! I’m a night owl too. I feel like I get my best work done at night and always seem to have more energy at the end of the day. Love that spoon.

I’m loving my latte mug and spoon combo, too! The cutest!!! And I am not a morning person, though I get up and running because I have to. And I stay up way too late every night. When else can we get anything done? :)

Although… when I write a blog post late at night to publish the next morning, I often can’t remember what I wrote.

Can’t wait to see you in just a few short weeks!

I love sleep… LOVE sleep! Please teach me how to love coffee, I have never been able to get past the smell of it to even try it.

OOoh, I loooove all of her mugs- and the cereal bowls… and all of her pottery. The spoons are really cute, too.

I stay up waaaay too late every night and regret it every morning when my little alarm clocks cut into my sweet sleep. I had my first cup of coffee the other day, thinking a pick me up might be in order. I might just *need* to get one of those coffee and spoon sets for myself ;)

I never used to be a morning person until I had Breanna. I however love coffee…iced coffee is my new favorite! You should try the International Delight…so so good…Costco has 2 pks for like $6. Caramel and Mocha

I usually am in bed by 11 especially if I want to get some things done – blog posts or edit pictures but anything past that, I am a bear in the AM…

I agree kisses and hugs definitely make it better

100% night person. I get nothing done during the day (emails, blogging, freelance writing, etc) so the night time is my only time and I am awake until 1 or 2am. I am lucky my girls have always been good sleepers – until 7:30 or 8…but now that school is back we have to get up at 7am. To me this is early!!! So I have to get to bed earlier somehow…never enough hours in the day. And I don’t drink coffee…so mornings are rough! Oh that spoon is so cute!!

I just wrote a little about this today too! I’m a total night owl, but my kids haven’t gotten the memo. Not long ago (in a not-so-proud-of-that mommy moment) my daughter came into my room early in the morning, and I, fearing she’d wake our newborn who was sleeping next to me, channeled a demon and said in the deepest voice that’s exited my mouth, “GO TELL DADDY.” Thankfully, she wasn’t scared, and I didn’t have to tell her twice (I may have to break that voice out more often!!). I’ve made it one of my September goals to try to go to bed earlier, but sometimes it’s really hard to say goodnight to a calm, quiet house. I’m not a coffee drinker, but I do love chocolate so I’m thinking I may have to give these cafe mochas a try! And that spoon is too cute!

I’m both = I was pretty much always tired even before my daughter was born:-/

I also wasn’t a regular coffee drinker. Then during my first pregnancy I craved it. weird. I really started drinking it more regularly after she was born and I was SOOOOO tired in the first few weeks…lets make that months ;-)

P.S. Love the spoon. Making things pretty and fun does wonders for me too :-)

I’ve always been a morning person, but after having a baby, I realized the only time I get things done is when she goes to bed. so i stay up way too late, and get up early because she gets up at the crack of dawn too. Me and coffee are one. ;)

I am beginning to think I am a night owl as I get older. I seem to get my big streak of energy to get things done in the afternoons/early evenings.

    Have a great day!

Totally a morning person but I have to get up at 5:15 am for work. I admit to being a morning person but that is just insane. I would love to get up at 6-6:30 :) So yea, its definitely 9pm bedtime for us! I love a pretty mug and some good coffee too, can do wonders to get you going! I get the most done before noon, then its downhill from there ha!

I am a night owl, but am slowly changing my ways to being a morning person. I actually didn’t think it was possible. But now that I’m homeschooling and getting older I’ve faced the reality that Mommies who get sleep get more done. It’s sad. I kinda miss my alone night time… but for the past week I’ve (with only a few 7am slip ups) got myself up by six and into the shower. I’ve trained my little kids to stay in their beds until I greet them at 7. It’s odd, but I’ve found myself more tired at night and LOOKING FORWARD (I told you, weird) to getting to bed so I can get up in the morning! Now I get some spiritual reading done while I sip hot coffee. I set the coffee, my clothes, and decide on breakfast all before hitting the sack. I also set a load of washing in to start at 6, so I’m greeted after my shower by the sound of laundry washing… without even having to think about the load. ahhh… Now my meal prep is easier since by the time I hit the kitchen my coffee is ready, I’m showered and dressed, breakfast is already prepped, or decided on, and I can enjoy opening a cookbook on a tidy counter. The past two nights have been big fat fails. I’ve slept until 7 and had children knocking on my door while I’ve been trying to go to the bathroom and brush my teeth. They jump around and the baby cries for her breakfast, so no time for a shower, let alone make the bed. Then I rush around to make breakfast, dinner prep is pushed aside. My coffee has been waiting for a good hour and isn’t so fresh. My spiritual reading is replaced by ‘look Mommy is sitting down… lets jump on her’. So, as a former night owl, I like the morning person ‘me’ better :)

This is why we made a coffee bar (http://thedailymamalogue.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-coffee-bar.html). Making something pretty just adds the little something extra to make you feel pampered even when it’s chaos around you!
This post has inspired me to start collecting unique mugs for our cafe theme kitchen :) Hopefully there will be some nice craft fairs in town soon for fall!
