Building Our Home: Exterior and Interior Updates

February 19, 2021

I remember when we were just walking on the plot of land dreaming up what this home could be for our family and what it would look like. Now, here we are just weeks away from closing. I haven’t shared much of the exterior of our house, but today I’m looking back at how far it’s come! I love a good before and after…and even these afters aren’t the final ones!

The white porch posts need to be painted white…and the landscape, driveway and sidewalk need to go in.

How it started…

The kids have loved seeing all the big construction vehicles used. I remember the day we signed the papers we went back to the lot and suddenly this machinery was in there. It was a cool moment- go time! Another time we drove by the house and it happened to be when they had the big beams on cranes putting up the roof! The kids were freaking out in the car watching! :)

I can’t wait to see the driveway and front sidewalk put in!

INTERIOR UPDATES

For privacy, I won’t be sharing the builder/development. But happy to answer any finishing questions! I’ve already been getting asked a bunch about the floors we chose. I AM IN LOVE WITH THEM! We went with Mohawk’s Revwood in Fawn Chestnut.
I can’t wait to see the entire downstairs uncovered…I pulled back part of the protective paper so that I could get a better look at them.
The wide plank is exactly what I was dreaming of.

The kitchen has been really fun to see come together!
Ever since we were first married…I always wanted white subway tiles, white cabinets and marble countertops. We’ve lived in a lot of rentals over the years, moved a lot for ministry, and it feels surreal that this is going to be our KITCHEN! I can’t wait to cook with my people in here.

I’ve been getting asked about the paint color. Right now it’s just the builder color: Heron Plume.
It goes a little yellow in some lights so we are probably going to paint the downstairs our favorite Revere Pewter. I’m not decided though! Part of my wants to go lighter…but the revere pewter has always been good with kids- it’s not WHITE walls ya know?

I believe these are our kitchen lights: The pendants and the kitchen table light.
Our finish is matt black.

The pantry is going to be such a fun project!! I’e always had a tinyyy little door pantry so this feels amazing! I’ve been pinning and saving on Instagram all the pantry organization tips. ;)

We have carpet installed!
This is the guest room on the main floor. And then Hunter is looking out the window in the room he will share with Chase. There is a “big boys” room and a “little boys” room. I’m excited to have two spaces to decorate for boys. Over the years, things will probably change and adjust and I like that we have options. We have a bonus room upstairs that could also be a bedroom if needed. (We are using it as a movie room/hangout space.) The house could be 5-6 bedrooms. But for now, everyone is sharing a room with someone and that’s exactly how we wanted it! The girls usually sleep in the other’s room anyways haha. (they have their own now.) The big boys have a bathroom connected to their room…and the girls have a bathroom connected to their room. It’s going to be a great set up!

The lights and bathroom cabinets, countertops and faucets are in!
This is our bathroom!
Bathroom Lights: Acadia 3 light
Bathroom Faucets: Moen Gibson Centerset Bathroom Sink Faucets
Bathroom Toilet Paper Holder: Moen Triva

This is the downstairs/guest room bathroom. (connected to both. guest room and front foyer.)

This is the boys’ and upstairs hallway bathroom.

Here’s some more shots of the downstairs! They’ve been busy touching up drywall and paint and other fixes.
The stairs still need to be finished.

I believe this is our Dining Room light: Acadia 26″ Chandelier
Finish is black.

Foyer light: Acadia 8 light chandelier. (ours is black finish)

Our closing date is scheduled for next month – hoping it all keeps coming together smoothly!
Thanks for sharing in our excitement as we build our home! Feeling grateful as I looked at these photos! It has been so cool watching the new house be built from the ground up! You can see our Stories Highlight over on Instagram where we’ve shared more of the home building process.
