Decorate like a Pro without Spending like One: Practical Concrete Tips. #2 – Window Treatments

April 16, 2010

I set up a series of posts full of practical concrete tips for making your space look decorated by a pro…but you can take all the credit. ;) and…you know what you are looking for…and what look you want so you go out bargain shopping and be the favorite person of your husband when you come home with money still left in your account. :)

TIP #2 WINDOW TREATMENTS
Go high with the curtains…
and make sure the rod isn’t ugly.
I had my curtains right above the molding in my dining room..but the day i made them go higher (much to the “cheerful annoyance” of the hubby) it made my ceiling look ten times taller! and really gave the drapes some drama….drama is always good in a dinging room. :) but any room really!! the curtain rod has plenty to do with it as well so make sure you find one that has some character/charm..goes with the space. it is an accessory to play up!

example:
before...the curtains were way low..what were we thinking… i know..i was having a baby.
after: raised them up high above the moulding. we get way more light in..and it draws your eye up.
Pair up Fabrics with Blinds/Shades.
There’s a variety of textures out there to work with!

in another post i’ll talk more about fabrics..playing with fabrics for not only your curtains but your pillows..and rugs…and table linens! some of my favorite stuff to shop for!! :)

link up any great window treatments you’ve put together…or great before and afters!! we need to encourage, motivate and inspire each other!!
