Getting Ready for Kindergarten- Our Favorite I Can Read books + Character Sugar Cookies!

July 17, 2018

Todayā€™s post is sponsored by HarperCollins.

I still canā€™t believe Micah is going to be in Kindergarten this Fall!
To help him get excited about learning to read, I planned a fun activity for us!
We love the I Can Read! books and were inspired by two of our favorite characters.
We pulled out our cookie cutters and baked up some cookies in their shapes!

The kids love the whole process of making the sugar
cookie dough, rolling it out and pressing in the cookie cutters.
Micah was giddy over the shapes that looked
like the dinosaur from Danny the Dinosaur and Paddington Bear!

Help your little one get excited for reading by having some special one on one time!
Pick out your favorite character and a cookie cutter to match!
Hereā€™s the
Sugar Cookie recipe that is a family favorite and we have made for years!

Reading and snacking? Two of Micahā€™s favorite things!
Itā€™s so important to me to help Micah connect fun
and love with reading…and these special moments can do that! If youā€™re looking for
more ways to get interactive with your books, the
I Can Read! team has a whole slew of
printables available
on their website, and you can win your own set of books at the end of this post.

I shared these books on Instagram and so many of you DMā€™d me sharing the same love for these titles.

The I Can Read! books excite young readers by featuring beloved characters!

In case yourā€™e new to hearing about these books…the I Can Read! books are organized
into color-coded levels (learn about them
here) and the ones that Iā€™m sharing with you today
are ideal for kids learning to read! (Kindergarten/First Grade.) If you have a child that falls into
that category youā€™re going to want to get the titles in the
ā€œMy First: Shared Readingā€ and ā€œLevel 1: Beginning Readingā€ levels.

Micah was so happy when these arrived and big sister
Sienna was more than happy to read them to him right away!

We all dove into the books and I could tell Micah
was feeling excited about being ableĀ to read them himself one day soon!
After the cookies came out of the oven everyone got in on the cookie eating part!

If you ask a 5 year old to take some photos for a fun blog postā€¦
you will probably get a handful of shots like this. Haha. He had me laughing.
I hope that he always keeps his joy and love for life!
He canā€™t wait for Kindergarten to start and I just want to help him feel as
confident and prepared as I can – He is going to love it!

I would love to help you and your little soon to be reader
add some of these books to your shelves!

My favorite is Danny and the Dinosaur. I don’t remember if the dinosaur has a name, because it’s been ages since I read it.
