Renew Your Heart + Video Blog: Being Married to a Youth Minister + I’m Guest Blogging Today!

May 16, 2010

As mothers and women in the world it’s so easy for us to get caught up in the busy busy and we forget why exactly we are icing 100 cupcakes at 10 at night…or scrubbing every surface in the house covered with crayons. Love…we do this out of love! or atleast we should! sometimes we can try and “do it all” for the praise of others but that will not bring us real happiness..it will make all of our to-do lists superficial! I love cooking and decorating and planning parties down to every last detail…but i try and do all of these things with those i love in mind..… and to realize that these things are not what define me but are things i can do to put a smile on someone’s face or take care of someone i love. A great way to have this mindset while being a busy mama..is to stop for a minute and get grounded…read something bigger than yourself! soo….
I started a new blog feature….a weekly series of uplifting and inspirational true stories to renew your heart! To motivate you in your daily life and to encourage you in whatever task you have going on. I hope you enjoy it!
A Father’s Love for his Son: Team Hoyt
My husband came across this story a while back and has used it different times with his youth ministry. It is so powerful. and made me tear up the first time i watched it. The first video is the story that the Today show did on them. The second video is the one that my husband has shown on retreats or a youth night. I can’t help but compare this Father’s love for his son to the amazing love that God has for each of us. Sometimes we feel so powerless and weak but we need to remember that we have a God whose love surpasses anything we’ve ever experienced before…He looks down on you and is soooo in love! and he can’t wait for us to let Him be our strength..let him carry us through any trial we may be going through!

My husband sends out a weekly challenge to fellow youth ministers via Catholic Youth Network. He asked me this week to share on being married to a youth minister. I thought i would pass it along since some of my readers have husbands who are youth ministers! have a lovely sunday ladies!! I almost didn’t post this because i thought it was too “religious” for my blog.. but then i was like…it’s my life..it’s my blog…so here ya go. :)

Check out my guest post over at yummy mummy week!!

Such a sweet new addition to your blog. I loved hearing your story! God uses us in so many ways and Im confident that he will use your transparency about what goes into both of you serving the Lord by reaching the youngins! It was beautiful picture you painted.
Oh, and you made me want to wear one of those cute headbands in my hair! hehe.

I agree – that headband is super cute! lol :) Love the blog entry w/the video. It’s nice to hear that other couples pray together – it really is important.

My husband is Catholic and I grew up going to Catholic school. While I’ve fallen away from the Church, I do pray every day and have my relationship with God. My faith has gotten me through so many hard times growing up so I’m always trying to share it with my husband.

I want him to be able to know God and trust in Him like I do. I think it really does help to ease stress, knowing that God is always going to be there for us, you know? My husband once told me that after he met me is when he gave faith a chance and finally started to really believe in God, or the idea of something bigger than us out there.

I think he sometimes struggles because he looks for “proof”, he’s always into the science behind things. I constantly remind him that you don’t need proof, you just have to have your faith and believe.

I think he’s finally starting to see some of the ways that God has helped us in our life, especially after his brother committed suicide. I think my faith helped him have a little more faith so he could better handle the sadness.

Anyhow, I’m babbling here, I’m sorry. I just really wanted to say thank you for reaching out and not being afraid to talk about God. Keep up the fab posts and God Bless!!!

    Sincerely,
    Jaime :)

Natalie, your little talk was so heartfelt. I applaud you for being so open with your faith and being proud of it! It’s so wonderful knowing that there are other God-loving and God-serving couples out there. You so obviously love and respect your husband and stand beside him no matter what. Your faith and trust in God is so powerful and I love that you put so much emphasis on prayer…esp praying together, as a couple and a family and how important that is. It’s amazing what God can do with prayer! My hubs and I pray together (although, I can’t say every night) and it really has brought us through some tough times. You have inspired me to pray together more and make it a priority.

    You rock! Thanks for sharing!

Wow girl! Your video is so sweet and inspiring, as I, myself, am a pastor’s wife (he used to do youth, but since we’ve been married, he’s a college pastor). It is so encouraging whenever I get to hear from other ministry wives because it’s a completely different lifestyle from other couples… kinda like being a military wife. Not everyone can understand the same struggles we go through! I just love your blog. It always leaves me with a happy feeling.

you are so sweet. i love your blog and can see your heart in each entry. thank you for sharing. i am a children’s pastor and not everyone understands what ministry is like, it is a lifestyle…not a job. ya know? God is truly blessing you, how awesome is that! God is so good!
