Our Hallway Gallery Wall

January 25, 2017

I love gallery walls! In all of our homes, I’ve always ignored the boring
work like unpacking every box and jumped straight into getting some
family photos on the walls! Call it procrastinating… I call it making it homie. ;)
Ever since I shared some shots of our hallway gallery wall on my Instagram…
I’ve been getting a lot of questions about it!
So here you go! I thought I would share all the details in a post!

So when we moved to this house I didn’t buy any new frames for this project.
Over the years I’ve gathered frames for different spaces in our
houses and when we moved I had them all in once place.
So I looked at the wall…and my frame stash..and decided to go big or go home!
It was the perfect little hallway for this kind of project.
Brightened it up and I enjoy walking through it every day!
Almost all but 3 frames are from IKEA and the bottom section are all plastic ones.
IKEA FRAMES YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT:
RIBBA Series and FISKBO Series.
When working on gallery walls I usually eyeball it or use templates…
so I’ll cut out wrapping paper or regular paper to fit my frames and put them
up on the wall to make sure the layout works. For this project…
I just put all the frames on the floor and winged it!

The collage frames are old and I can’t remember where I got them!
But I know Michaels has some like that.
The large black and white of the kids is from Canvas Pop. (print and frame!)
Most of the frames I used as is, whatever photo was in them already.
A few I updated and switched out.
Almost all of the photos in the frames I printed off my own printer.
I don’t have anything fancy… I’ve had different printers over the years but I
currently use a HP Officejet Pro 8100. Gets the job done.
A few of these were prints from IKEA… or a map I cut into the shaper of a heart… the kids’ hand prints in paint…
or a love letter from ben and some photobooth photos of us taped over it!
One of the photos is a print I had done at Office Depot.
You can have them do different sizes for a pretty good price.

I’ve seen gallery walls done with the same size frames..and love that.
I was using what I had and mixed together the different sizes and depths.
Pretty happy with how it turned out. Everyone always ends up over there looking at the photos.
I think gallery walls are the best conversation starters when company is over….
and the most uplifting things to look at when you are alone and your kids are going bonkers. haha.

The kids have been almost perfect with not touching the frames.
Asher likes to test the limits lately..and will go over and just push them a tad I
really think he is just copying me because he’ll see me go over and adjust them to straighten them out. haha.
Someone on Instagram commented with a great idea after I posted the photo below…
use light weight command strips to attach the bottom ones to the wall!
Love that and it’s on my to do list! ;)

I hope you are feeling inspired to do this in your own home!
Don’t be scared off of doing it…
If you are at all nervous just make templates!
Mix in things that you love… maybe sentimental pictures or items.
Sometimes when I’m not sure where to start with a gallery wall…
I’ll just begin gathering things I have or find that I think will be perfect together.
I’m currently in that stage in my boys’ room.
I have some things I really want to group together but nothing is on the walls just yet! gallery wall-athomewithnatalie-5

Thanks for stopping by!
Be sure to follow me on Instagram for more home photos and video clips.
I’ll be sharing the gallery wall progress in the boys’ room over there!
Happy hanging!

Looks great! Did you paint when you moved in, and if so, what is that grey/greige paint color? Thanks in advance!

We did a smaller gallery wall in our living room earlier this year and I’m really loving it. The centerpiece is a huge world map and it’s surrounded by keepsakes, kids’ art, signs, and other odds and ends that just work.

Did you have to buy mats for the frames? I’m in love with gallery walls!

Not for most! Some are just paper I had to make it work!
