CURLY HAIR PRODUCTS-ATHOMEWITHNATALIE {Image by Rivkah}

As promised… some curly hair talk!
I’m SO happy I found a combo of inexpensive products. (I get all of mine at target)
I have tried a lot of products. A LOT. and I probably will keep on trying and update you with any other good finds.
But this is the current daily routine I use when I wear my hair curly.
I love how it saves me the time and heat of straightening my hair.
When it’s 98 degrees outside…you don’t want to go anywhere near a straightener!
aww 98 degrees…oh the boy band memories. ok.. moving on! back to hair!
I should note…I used to always straighten my hair because it’s a lot more manageable…
curly hair grows over the day and is a bit more wild…. but I remember in college my mom
was like natalie you’re gonna find that man when you finally wear your hair curly….
and what do you know, ben loves it curly the most. I don’t think wearing it curly was the
reason I found him, lol, but still. mom wins points there for knowing best.

OK! First things first. PRODUCT!
I use 3 things and they all work together to make curly hair magic.
1. Pantene Defining Mousse. 2. Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding.
3. Dove Extra Hold Hair Spray (or the one that’s one level down in strength.. I use both.)

STEP ONE: shower.
STEP TWO: brush hair. (I know some curly hair girls say NOOO but I say YESSS.
When I brush my hair before the shower, and then don’t brush after.. It gets all frizzy and crazy too soon.
Brushing after the shower helps tame my hair a little and make it smoother.
BUT. you could try brushing before/during the shower and see how that works for you!

STEP THREE: Put plenty of mousse in your hair. I go by sections. load it up.

STEP FOUR: Put the curly hair pudding in your hair.
It helps smooth out what would end up being crunchy if you just did the mousse.

STEP FIVE: For the most part don’t touch as your hair dries. I randomly will scrunch it a bit.
or sometimes even add more curly hair pudding as it dries.

STEP SIX: When your hair is for the most part dry.. spray it!
Grab that hair spray and use it to help hold your curls.
I LOVE Dove’s line of hairspray because it doesn’t make it crunchy.
It feels more like a powder/dry shampoo texture..not sticky at all.
Adds texture to help your hair have some volume and look naturally curly.

I hope these tips help. TRYYY it and see how it works for your hair’s texture!
My hair used to be really curly…and with each pregnancy I lost some.
I have been trying to find the right combo of hair product ever since.
You might not think your hair has enough curl…
but with these products it might end up being perfect!
I love being able to shower and go!
I don’t even care about going out with wet hair at this point.
You don’t waste precious time of kiddos behaving with letting your hair dry.
When baby #4 arrives it’s only going to get trickier to get pulled together and out the door…
so I’ll be doing this routine regularly. and then putting it up on top of my head. lol.
I’m remembering those grabby cute baby hands that rip hair.

My 2 (almost 3…yikes!) year old has really curly hair. My husband and I do not so I’m not used to it and don’t really know what to do with it. It is really pretty but she is a little kid and it gets tangled pretty easily. She gets a bath about every other day and we load her up with conditioner and comb out all of the knots. I’ve been thinking about and wondering if there is some product we should use on it in between washings. We tried a spray on conditioner but it just left her hair feeling kind of gross (and we needed soo much of it to work on her hair). I might have to look into some of these products for her! Thanks!

Alex, I have an almost-3-year old with curly hair too, and if I don’t do something with it, it’s just a ball of frizz and knots! I’ve figured out something that works pretty well so I thought I’d pass it on to you: in the morning, I get her hair pretty wet (probably about 80% saturated), just at the sink. I put about two pumps of this Hawaiian Silky Miracle Worker (from Sally’s Beauty Supply) into her hair and distribute it with my fingers. Then we use a wide-tooth comb to get the knots out, and lastly, I scrunch it all up with my fingers. Her curls dry so defined and smooth and she gets compliments on them all.the.time! Also, one bottle of that stuff lasts forever so it’s totally worth it.

Hi Natalie! I’m guilty of reading your posts and rarely commenting! I’m a curly girl, too. I have to use different products for my super curly hair (type 3B if you’ve ever checked out naturallycurly.com), but I was so glad to see a post on this topic. Setting naturally curly hair free is so much easier for mommas than constantly trying to tame the curly mane-especially in the heat and humidity! I use Miss Jessie’s products, too. I’m loving a mixture of Jelly Soft Curls gel and Quick Curls lotion right now. I’ve used Pillow Soft Curls in the the past and I loved that product, too. Curly Pudding may jump in to my cart next time I’m at Target ;)
