Sophia’s First Communion Day

May 11, 2017

We love celebrating special moments in our family.
We go all out for birthdays and making special memories together.
But something even more exciting than a birthday happened this past month!!
Sophia made her First Communion! This was a day she’s been talking about and giddy over for the past year.
We had a beautiful day celebrating her special day with loved ones.
My parents and my sister and her kids came into town for the big day!
I hope Sophia always has this beautiful love for Jesus and relationship with Him!
We had a pretty white party table and all the sweet treats you could want!
The video of the day is at the bottom of this post! :)

I can’t believe we are already here and celebrating this Sacrament together!
These kids keep growing up so fast!
For those of you who don’t know, we are Catholic, and around
second grade children typically make their First Communion.
It’s a BIG moment and I remember my First Communion Day like it was yesterday.
It set me off on really pursuing a personal relationship with Jesus and always keeping Him at the center of my life.
As a parent, I hope that I can help lead my daughter to foster this relationship
with Him and help her to always go to Him and talk to Him like He’s her best friend.
The simple faith of a child is an amazing thing and it was a blessing to all of
us to be able to be a part of her First Communion Day!

Sophia requested a “fancy and everything white” party table and I was happy to make it special for her!
We had fun putting together some sweet treats and celebrated her!
The mass was in the evening so we had a little open house during the afternoon.

I already own a ton of white cake stands and use them for all our occasions, but
I did pick up a metal tray that matched some of my stands!
I grabbed it half off at Hobby Lobby. They have such cute stuff for dessert tables!
I also found the gold framed art in the middle of the table.
It was just too perfect and I love how we’ll have it to hang up and remember that day.
I framed her Baptism picture (frame from Marshal’s) and used a frame I already had to put
one of the photos I took of her in her dress earlier that week. LOVED having that on the table.
It made it so special!

My mom made her famous sugar cookies (crosses and hearts for this occasion!)
(Here’s the recipe from YEARS ago.)
My sister made the cupcakes with Micah and her Violette. They were big helpers. ;)
We kept it pretty simple with store bought treats that we could easily put out.
I made some rice krispies and jazzed them up with white
chocolate morsels and melted white chocolate. I had a container filled with mini
marshmallows, Mini White Chocolate Kit Kats
and Yogurt covered raisins. Sophia loves carrot cake so when I saw this one at Kroger,
with no real decorations on it, I grabbed it up!
I just smoothed out the top a little with a knife and put it out!
I put out a bowl of gold wrapped hershey hugs and reese’s cups. (I liked how the wrappers sparkled!)
And finally I stacked up some white powdered sugar donuts.
My kids officially consider it a party when we get those! ;)

For the backdrop I went easy with white balloons! (Sophia requested!)
Ordered 24 balloons and Ben picked them up the morning of.
I just arranged one at a time and taped them underneath the island.
Then just snipped the long strings.
With my all day morning sickness I needed something easy for the table
but I was lucky enough to not feel sick for three days straight!
I was for sure relieved when I felt sick again(I was a little worried.)…
but it was for sure a blessing to not feel so yucky during the days we had company!

Sophia used the bag that my Grandmother had made for me to use on my First Communion Day.
We put it out on the table for sentimental reasons. :)
It was pretty neat seeing Sophia use it. She seemed so big to me!

It was so nice having my parents here!
They gave a special present to Sophia and I loved how sweet she was when she opened it.
She really did feel so loved that day!
We missed all of our family that wanted to travel in and be
here but are happy we can share these photos and a video with them!

The Mass was in the evening and they had a little reception in the Hall after.
It was cute seeing how excited she was with all her classmates!
We snapped some quick family photos right before heading into Church.
Minus the boys, who were home doing bed time with a sitter. (best decision of my life! haha.)
It was so nice having my parents, my sister and some of the cousins there!

Thank you for sharing in our joy and
excitement for Sophia on her big day!
Ben and I gave her the rosary and she holds onto it like treasure!
They pray a decade every day in class. :)

What a beautiful gown! My mom always let us choose desserts each year on our ‘First Communion’ anniversary to help commemorate the day
