Domestic Violence Awareness

My best was killed by the estranged father of her children. It was violent and in front of the children. She had finally gotten away from him. She was moving forward with her life and being the amazing mother to her children that she always was. The day before she was killed she had commented on realizing how beautiful she really was. She had even met the, “love of my life.” Her killer couldn’t have her so no one could. He killed her during a custody exchange of their two children. After nearly thee years, earthly justice was given when Chris, in a plea deal, pleaded guilty and received a life sentence without parol.

My hope is that Shannon’s story will be seen around the world and reach the hearts of those being abused by their partner. I hope it gives them strength to protect themselves and their loved ones. I hope it gives people strength to speak up for someone not feeling strong enough to speak for themselves.

I remember the time we all got together over Christmas break and went to Centennial Park in Downtown Atlanta. We loved it there. We went ice skating..and just goofed off. I’m so glad we brought a video camera so we could always remember that time. I really was so lucky in my high school years to be surrounded by such awesome friends. We were “good kids”…and occasionaly got into trouble..(barely. in all honesty.) I hope that my girls one day have friends like I did growing up.. friends that were kind, uplifting, authentic, loyal and into their faith!! friends who LOVED LIFE.

I want to remember her like this.
(I made this video as a Christmas present to my friends back in 2003.)
