Asher’s 2nd Birthday Party – A Ball Theme!

October 27, 2017

It was such a fun day celebrating Asher’s 2nd Birthday!
He LOVES BALLS. Doesn’t matter what kind of ball it is…if he can throw it.. he’s a fan.
So we went with a sports ball theme and kept the dessert table fairly simple.
We reused the grass backdrop from Sienna’s Unicorn Party and added
some white duct tape to make it look like a field!
Keep on reading to check out all the dessert table details and party fun!

Here’s the video of the party! I posted it earlier this week on our YouTube channel!
If you aren’t following us over there hop on over and subscribe!

First things first…the dessert table!
Always such a fun part of a themed party.
I grabbed a few things from Oriental Trading to help bring home the theme.
A giant Baseball Piñata (not filled with candy but just for decor.) Sport Ice cream shooter guns,
baseball lollipops, sport ball ring lollipops and sport stress balls (you know kids..so stressed out.)
I made the banner from supplies I got at Michaels. Just some pre cut canvas banner pieces,
black lettered stickers, washi tape and clothespins. I had the twine and just strung it up!

I filled two of my glass jars with ball themed treats.
I had cheese balls for basketballs….and then the donut holes at the
grocery store were both cinnamon and powdered sugar so I did football and baseballs!
The labels I made with card stock paper, washi tape(Michaels)
and foam sport stickers(from Hobby Lobby.)

I had the Baseball suckers in a metal container… a long with a metal tray filled with candy!
The kids LOVED being able to dig around and pick out a treat.
Sometimes you don’t need to overthink it..just throw some candy on that table! ;)
The going going gone sign is from Hobby Lobby and is now in the boys’ room!
I put some ball chocolates (from Party City) on top of some cupcakes.
They were halloween cupcakes but we just picked off the purple sprinkles and made it work.
I couldn’t swing baking anything… too pregnant. haha.
Micah LOVED these chocolate balls. not so much the cupcakes…
I think he picked off about half of the chocolate balls
and ate them throughout the party haha.

The popcorn bags are from Hobby Lobby and we just popped some popcorn in
the microwave and stuffed them right before the party.
The stand they are in is an old find from Hobby Lobby.
The stress balls are in glass containers I have had for years but got at Target.
I just went around my house and gathered up the dishes and crates to put on the table.
I found some fun cupcake toppers at Party City… soccer balls and basketballs!
They have a pretty big sports section. I ALMOST got whistles for
party favors but then remembered….that’s a horrible idea haha.
I had giant sport ball balloons from Zurchers that we filled up at Party City that morning.
I just taped them to the back of the crates. Asher thought they were so fun!

I used a store bought cake (Sophia was with me and voted carrot cake!)
It kind of looked like the dirt on a field…and I added some green sprinkles I already had.
Put some Dollar Tree Cracker Jack boxes around and it! Asher LOVES cracker jacks. asher ball party-athomewithnatalie 13

I had another table set up for more snacky food and for the drinks.
I used some sport ball paper lanterns from Party city to hang above.
I had some white curling ribbon that I strung them up with and curled the ends.
I drew a fun chalkboard sign (the sign itself is from Michaels.)
The other baseball sign is from Hobby Lobby and we are going to hang in the boys’ room.
I put out some gatorade (a special treat for our kids…so extra fun!)
and then some snacks and plates. asher ball party-athomewithnatalie 15
We did a “nacho” set up like you could get from the concession stand.
Then just some peanuts, grapes and some bags of chips!
I’m pretty sure the football plates are from Party City.

The kids shirts are all from Old Navy and I ironed on some numbers!
Each one shows how old they are (or will be…Micah is so close to turning 5!)
I love how they turned out and Ben and I even got in on the theme.
(Ben’s shirt is from Old Navy and mine was from Hobby Lobby)
We didn’t put our ages on the backs though. haha.
I added some baseball stripes to my belly and Micah REALLY got a kick out of it.
He appreciated that DIY haha.

Asher’s birthday present from us was this slide!
We got it at Target and it’s the Little Tikes brand.
I got a $9 slide off Amazon and the balls are from Walmart!
It has been used daily in our house ever since the party…I have yet to pack up all the balls.
I think we will “reduce” how many balls are in there… but it’s been a fun activity for the kids.
Asher LOVES slides and says “weeee” every time he goes down it.
THIS would be an awesome Christmas present if you have a little one with tons of energy. ;)

It was a fun day and we are thankful for our friends
who came over to play and celebrate Asher with us!

We are still finding these balls behind and under furniture haha.
But so worth it!
If you are looking for a fun party activity for little ones…
they all got a kick out of going down the slide in into the balls!

What an amazing, fun party! Especially when you are no doubt exhausted with a pending delivery. =)
I’m curious, how did you hang the turf? Is it attached to a board, or hung from the window? Adorable!

thanks!!! It’s actually attached to the wood frame we built (for sienna’s party) and then it’s sitting on the window ledge pinned up with the table. Worked out well! I did tie some string at top with a nail..but think that was just for my peace of mind lol. I don’t think it did anything :)
