Giveaway Time! Mr & Mrs. D’Arcy: Fashionable Baby Sling

July 6, 2010

GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED. THANKS FOR ENTERING!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. . .

To quote the movie “13 going on 30”, i like to think of myself as “30, flirty and thriving”…hee hee. I just turned the big 3-0 a few weeks ago and hey, I’m flirty, and I’m thriving! I’m a stay at home mom to a hilarious 10 month old boy, Moses.
To give you a little taste of Moses’s personality, I will share a short story. When he was sick and pathetic, my husband said “So, this is what other babies are like? This is really nice. Can the next one be like this?” To say the least, he is very active and an absolute blast. And he has a great sense of humor. My mom claims he has been laughing at her jokes since he was about 6 months old.
I have a fabulous husband. We recently moved back to my hometown of Dallas TX, I’ve been away for about 12 years and never thought I’d move back…especially not within a 2 mile radius of my parents, my nutty grandma (whom we like to call “old bag”) and my sister (who also happens to be very crafty). I come from a crafty family and married a crafty man. I like the word crafty…
All in all, I’m lucky and very blessed. That about sums it up!

How did Mr & Mrs. D’Arcy come about?
Well, I happen to be lucky enough to have literally married “Mr. Darcy”. My husband’s name is D’Arcy. He is a very talented artist who does religious art and portraiture. He wanted to set up an Etsy site to sell some of his paintings, and I though, hey! I want in on this! He had originally thought to name the store “Mr. D’Arcy” because people are always teasing him about his name. When we decided to join forces, I suggested adding the “Mrs”.
I have always loved carrying my baby in slings, but have had a really hard time finding ones in colors and patterns that I like. So, I decided to make my own, and that’s how our store started!

Where do you get creative inspiration from?
I get creative inspiration from fabric stores and fashion. I try to find unique fabrics that will coordinate with lots of things, but that can also stand alone or “make” an outfit. When you’re a mom, your baby is like an accessory, so why not look cute while holding him! The goal for my slings is to make them out of fabric that is really special. This is not your ordinary baby sling! There is an amazing fabric store called “City Craft” (www.citycraftonline.com) down the street from us that has specialty fabrics. I go there for inspiration and always want to buy at least one of everything in the store. Plus, Moses likes to flirt with the cute salesgirls and play the their toys, too ;-)
I  also think about cute outfits that would go with them. One of my favorite slings is the “retro yellow floral” sling. I imagine it with a hot white linen outfit and gold platforms…Hey, who says moms have to look dowdy?? not me!  I also get a lot of creative inspiration from my cute, crafty, fashionista sister, Ann (http://daily-ann-tidote.blogspot.com)

How do you balance motherhood and your business?
When my baby is awake, I try to focus all my attention on him and having fun! When he is napping or down for the night, I get to work! I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mom so balancing everything is usually pretty simple, as long as he sleeps!!

What do you love most about motherhood..lessons learned..mama advice etc.?
I have to say, I was never the type of kid to dream about being a mom. I remember in the delivery room, after Moses was born, just looking at him and thinking, “hmm, that’s MY baby, how strange!” Little by little, as we all bonded and learned about each other, it has just become the most beautiful relationship. My husband and I constantly look at each other in awe at how stinkin’ cute he is and all the hilarious things he’s done. Right before Moses was born, my husband was laid off from his job and we had to move states when he was only 3 weeks old. I learned so much through those struggles. It was my “breaking point” where I was finally able to chill out. I think it is the biggest blessing we have been given, because it enabled us to really see life for what it is and take everything in stride. That’s how we try to parent – we do our best, we learn all we can, and we just focus on loving him and teaching him.
the giveaway will end July 8th!
