Simple “HAPPY LUNCH” Ideas!

October 17, 2013

With Sophia at school all day and micah going down for a mid morning nap,
I’m able to spend some one on one time with Sienna! Sometimes on special
days we make, what she likes to call, Happy Lunch! It’s not an every day thing…
because let’s be honest, some days it’s a dry cereal + grapes lunch for mom
and cheese roll up + grapes for sienna…. (survival) (I’m talking about today.)
BUT some days we make it a
fun activity in the kitchen together.

After the response via social media I thought I would share some some of
the “Happy Lunch” ideas I have done for my girls! Nothing fabulous…
just pulled out ingredients that were already in our fridge or pantry and tried
to come up with something “happy!”
We’ve made trains, we’ve made “daddy??” we’ve made a leprechaun
(on st. patrick’s day) and a puppy dog.
I seriously love her giggles and her “YOU DA BEST MOM”
commentary as we create something happy together.
She usually likes cheese somewhere on the plate.
It can be hair.. snow.. a face.. cheese is a must ;)

Pretty sure this is the cutest photo
on my phone right now.

The train is just a peanut butter jelly sandwich cut into
the right shape. nothing too perfect.
Loaded the train up with some fruit and veggies!
Made a strawberry the window,
crackers the wheels. and marshmallows the smoke!
The puppy was made with slices of cheese, ham, crackers and raisins.
Chips are snow? I don’t know..sienna’s contribution ;) going with it.
I like how the slice of ham became the tongue lol.

Don’t feel like getting too crafty with lunch time? Dino nuggets.
Bam. children’s hero. Have a dino battle with them…even cooler.
ps. don’t play with your food that’s bad manners.
This isn’t a regular option for lunch at our house…
but I love how excited they get over their Happy Lunch.
I think they get extra excited BECAUSE it’s not an every day thing.

This is what Micah does if he’s not sleeping while we make lunch.
stand and push chair around with his muscles.
usually making a happy raptor noise.

Micah is not picky when it comes to food.
No happy lunch required.
Here I was just sitting eating my lunch (leftovers-fancyyy) and
I see two little chubby hands grip the table. mouth opens.
gushing with joy over food. kinda in love with him.

Do you ever make “happy lunch” for your kiddos??
Share links to yours if you’ve posted them…
always looking for fun ones to try on these special days!

I love that kids can get so happy about something so simple. On special days and weather permiting I like to make simple lunch of finger sanwiches or pasta and side of fruit with a sweet topping like strawberries and whipcream. We then have lunch in the backyard usually in the play house. It is always a hit with them, and a plus for me because it means no real clean up or the usual spill to wipe up.
