Micah’s Construction Theme Birthday Party!

January 30, 2017

Micah’s Construction Themed 4th Birthday Party was so much fun to put together!
He was VERY into his birthday this year, so excited when I picked out a few themed items for it online!

PS. ARE YOU ON INSTAGRAM?? We are!

I’m always sharing home, organization, recipes, parties, crafts and family life over there daily!

We held off on having a party in Louisiana so we could celebrate with all the cousins
over Thanksgiving at Grandma and Grandpa’s house!
(It’s a PARTY when we all get together! haha.)
I brought a box of party items I had picked out from Hobby Lobby and Zurchers.com
and was gonna just make it happen one of the days of our visit.
If you feel like you don’t have a lot of time or energy for a party… this theme is for you!
A few key details made it feel super festive and fun and Micah was thrilled.
I enjoy getting creative with parties and it was even more fun this time because it was a fun experience
for the cousins to all celebrate together and enjoy the treats and game.
I’m sharing all the party planning details in this post!
To keep things really simple I chose one spot for the party set up.
My parent’s house has a great family room with natural lighting… a photographer’s dream!
BUT… one problem. LIGHT CARPET. Carpet and cousins and chocolate cake don’t mix well… haha.
Solution….a tarp! The night before I picked one up at Lowe’s a long with some
large cones and it was immediately a CONSTRUCTION PARTY! :)
The table was a DIY project we built (need to post tutorial!) that didn’t make into the moving
truck so my parent’s had it in their backyard. It really couldn’t have worked out better!

I LOVE styling dessert tables! It’s my happy place. :)
Ben and the Uncles took the kids outside after lunch and
I got to work creating a fun space for them to come back inside too!
I had some themed decor items to decorate the table with and it all came together pretty quickly.
The Construction signs were from Zurchers.com and the mini cones are from Hobby Lobby.
I had a table runner from Hobby Lobby! It was AWESOME. I mean.. that made the table.
I wasn’t sure how it would look being a plastic thing but it was great. The kids played with it after the party too…
we just cleaned it off and it was their road for the little pull back construction toys
that decorated the table and were favors.

The three 9″ white cake stands are from Zurchers.com and I brought them to gift
to my sister and sister in laws after the party!
Everyone needs a staple white cake stand in their life and I love these!

I made two treats the night before..the cake and the “paint brush” Rice Krispie treats.
Super easy and a great bang for your buck!
The Rice Krispie treats are just store bought ones…that I unpacked..stuck a craft stick in…
and dipped into melted orange chocolate.
SO EASY GUYS. blew those kids’ minds.. put them in a paint tray to make it eve more fun.
(Pack of trays from Dollar Tree.)

That’s a STORE BOUGHT cake. Oh Walmart… you never fail me.
The cake even had the “dirt” look I was wanting. I took a knife and smoothed out the top of the cake.
(it had a little frosting design on it.) Then I placed some construction vehicles
(pack from Ross) around the top. I cut up some mini reese’s cups and
sprinkled them around with chocolate chips to make it my construction site!
I was so happy with how it turned out and how easy it was. You have to try this!

The Walmart bakery area also had mini chocolate cupcakes that looked just like the cake! It was perfect!
I needed something to put in the cupcakes… so I used this yellow tape that
I had stuck in my party box before leaving town and made little toppers with toothpicks!
Each child had a place setting with goggles,(Dollar Tree!) a measuring tape
(Micah’s favorite!) and construction themed blowouts.
The construction themed plates and orange napkins(Walmart) made it all look nice and unified!

All of the treats are from Walmart. One quick run! I had chocolate donuts for “wheels” some
sugar wafer cookies for “lumber” and Chex mix for “nuts and bolts!”
I also grabbed some gatorade bottles because Micah LOVES gatorade haha..and..orange was my color!

I put the chex mix in little construction themed cupcake wrappers from Hobby Lobby.
Kids love snacks in little portions/containers!

I had Micah come into the room before all his cousins and it
was the sweetest thing seeing his face!
He was so happy. My big old 4 year old boy!

It was so fun celebrating Micah all together!
(there’s the DIY foam board caution sign I made! Tape and foam board..that’s all you need!)
Goggles are a MUST. We were cracking up over their smooshed faces.
Dollar Tree people! The construction hats are from Zurchers.com. Micah’s outfit was his birthday
present from us… A Melissa and Doug set I got at Ross a while back.
I loved how everyone was able to dress up and get in on the theme.

Micah was SO excited to finally be able to blow out the candles on his cake.
Orange party candles on the cake were from Walmart.

I only did a few DIY’s for this party… Both involved foam boards from the Dollar Tree!
I made a caution sign using the yellow tape and the foam board.
And then I made a little “pin the nail on the hammer” game!
I cut out little nails from grey paper and drew a hammer on the foam board.
We just put some tape on the back and let them spin and try to pin it!
The kids thought it was SO FUN. most of them cheated haha. But it was the idea and it gave us all a lot of laughs.
I used a pair of goggles with some yellow tape as the blindfold.
and a fun Uncle to hold the game. haha.

We had a little time for presents and then
all headed outside to play some more.
How cute are my parents?? :) They gave Micah a Knight Costume set!
Now he finally has dress up clothes to keep up with the girls’ when they all play!

Asher found a favorite spot during the party.
I snapped some shots of this chubby little guy… I just couldn’t help myself he’s been
bubbling with personality lately and I love it!
It’s been cute how the two boys have been “playing” more together.
The other day Asher “tackled” Micah and Micah was the happiest kid on the planet.

It was a fun day with family celebrating our Micah man!
I am a few months behind with this post but so glad it’s finally documented. ;)
These kids light up my world and I love creating these special memories with them!
