White and Sparkly Pumpkin Arch

October 10, 2022

Here is our take on the popular pumpkin arch! We don’t get too spooky around here but we love some whimsy! I went with all white craft pumpkins, carved with happy faces and polka dots for our arch. We used clear Christmas lights, with white wires, to add some sparkle to our front porch. I’m obsessed with how it turned out! In today’s post I’m giving you the run down on how I made it. You can do this too and bring some Halloween fun to your home!

SUPPLIES:
White Craft Pumpkins from Michaels.
White Zip Ties.
Portable Arch – I used the pole from the portable arch kit I got off Amazon.
Clear Christmas Lights with white wire. (I used 6 packs of 50 but could have gotten away with 4-5)

PUMPKINS:
OK. So the pumpkin arch is EVERYWHERE. But I’m just not a fan of orange and we never get too scary with Halloween decor. I knew I wanted white pumpkins but I DID NOT have time to spray paint any. I LOVE the white craft pumpkins at Michaels because they have them every year…I was able to mix in some that we already had. These go on sale too so you can get them discounted. They also hold up really well and carve like a dream. I did a mix of the large, medium and small sizes. You could make it easy and do one size…it’s up to you!
I used a knife to carve the faces…and then my drill to do the polka dot ones. Then I used a knife to cut a little square hole in the back of each pumpkin. I also made sure there was a couple polka dots or holes on all the pumpkins in the back so that I could zip tie and attach to the arch. The carving process is messy – but clean up is way easier than carving real pumpkins haha. (I enjoyed this part of the project the most! It was fun.)

ARCH:
I have seen people build an arch with wood or use PVC Pipes. I needed something easy and preferably free haha. I had this portable arch kit that I got off Amazon and jimmy rigged the pole to the porch pillars with white zip ties. I was wanting the rounded arch look but my plan is to figure that out next year. I still love how it turned out- kind of off centered and tilted – I think that’s fun for Halloween! Next year my plan is to build something but this got the job done and was FREE since I already had it. The main idea is that you want something small, attached to the pillars, that you can zip tie your pumpkins too.

LIGHTS:
I prefer the color of clear Christmas lights. (I just think they aren’t too cool or too warm. They’re just right!) But you could definitely go with your fave light colors! I didn’t want to do orange because I felt like it would just turn the white pumpkins- orange- haha. So that would be my only tip on lights. I got my lights at Walmart. 6 boxes of 50 because they didn’t have larger packs. I could have easily used 4 or 5 but I went to town and love how much glow we get. You just string them around the pole and stuff them into the pumpkins as you go.

I love that the arch looks pretty during the day and even prettier at night!

Let me know if you have any questions at all! The kids LOVE IT and that’s what I was going for! It’s been getting all the nice comments even the door dash lady loved it. haha. ;) I’m so exited with how it turned out AND…to have this in my stash to use for years to come! Since Michaels has these pumpkins every year…we can add to our porch arch decor next year if we want!
